For every soul is a circus
and every mind is a tent.
Every heart is a sawdust ring
where the circling race is spent.

Tramps Like Us!

Did you know that running around like a kook on the soccer field and pouring water over your head can help raise money for your school? It can! Friday was the annual Elon Park Elementary Fun Run for Education. It was a beautiful day to support a worthy cause and, in Rory's case, frolic about like a lunatic with beetles in your shorts. A local celebrity motivational speaker was there, Mr. Awesome. A champion multi-tasker, he was spinning discs and rocking the mike! I know what you're thinking... But don't judge Mr. Awesome, not until you've boogied a mile in his dapper red cape and fuzzy headband. Can you do the Tweezy Dance? How about the Cat Daddy? Or the Dougie? Okay, then. We gotta give Mr. Awesome his props. He got the crowd up and kept them there for 75 heart-thumping minutes! Mr. Awesome's flair and genius ensured that our sweaty athletes stayed amped as they tore up the track, occasionally at lightning speed. This is BoomBox. I'm not certain what his purpose was, beyond providing a real world example of good looks and physical fitness. But physical fitness can be intimidating, especially if it's running in the wrong direction and not paying attention to where it's going! When the dust settled, Desmond Henry had completed 30 laps. Rory Malcolm fell a few times and clocked in with 20. Bottom line: You can't keep a Killian down when you turn up the music and crack open the ice pops!

This is the sort of event that makes me wish I lived in Charlotte and could participate in the fun. Thanks for documenting it in words and pictures, Mary.

Three things I love about this post:

1. Rory looks like he is having the time of his life in that second photo! If only you could bottle up that pure, unadulterated happiness and sell it you would have millions.

2. The boys' team name - The Intimidators. I don't think I need to even expand on that one.

3. How you got Des to look at the camera & smile among all of the commotion in the second to last photo. Now that takes skill, or a really loud whistle!

Keep sharing on life in NC Mary b/c it makes us feel like we are right there with you :)
